The story begins in a futuristic dome town called Romdo, built to protect its citizens after a global environmental catastrophe. In this utopia, people and autoreivs (androids) coexist peacefully under the general management system. A series of murders committed by robots and cops infected with the Cogito virus (which makes them aware of themselves), begins to threaten the subtle balance of social order Rampo. Behind the scenes, the government conducts secret experiments on a mysterious humanoid form called "Proxy". It is believed that proxy essences (described as gods and immortal) are key to the survival of humanity.
