This manga, which Miyazaki wrote for a children's newspaper. It is rather a graphic story than manga, since most of the text is written outside the framework, and very little dialog bubbles (although by the end of the story he approached the traditional style of manga). A surprisingly dark story about the destruction of war, betrayal and the deformity of human nature in desperate situations, including the death of several characters. You can see the effect of Tedzuki Osama on the artistic style of this manga (as in most manga written in this era).
